  • Outdoor Youth Connection (OYC) - Nothern California - Age: ? - Collaborative effort between the California State Parks, California State Parks Foundation and the Pacific Leadership Institute. This collaborative accelerates resources to get youth outdoors and encourage them to be active and develop their lifelong leadership skills. OYC targets youth who are involved in community-based organizations from across Northern California.
  • Youth Lead! Pacific Leadership Institute (PLI) - Nothern California - Age: 15-20 - Teen Leadership Initiative developing the next generation of outdoor recreation leaders.PLI hires 15–20 youth every summer and beyond simple employment, these youth are exposed to the natural world, develop social and technical skills, and are trained with extraordinary leadership skills applicable to their life in general.
  • West Oakland Youth Standing Empowered (WYSE) - West Oakland- Age: 16-24 - Afterschool program with a mission to teach leadership and entrepreneurial skills. WYSE’s goal to advocate for healthy communities focuses on the built environment and food security through projects.
  • East Bay Regional Parks PARK'N IT - LEADERS IN TRAINING - Various Regional Parks in East Bay - Age: 13-17 - Work with a team of other teens in a fun Day Camp. Work experience in Parks & Recreation. Apply to be a Leader-in-Training and receive hands-on job training and leadership experience.

  • Literacy for Environmental Justice (LEF) - San Francisco Youth interns at LEJ get paid to improve their community.Some current LEJ youth projects include:Helping restore wetlands in Candlestick Park by collecting native plant seeds and growing plants such as native grasses and shrubs; Learning how to assess the community's exposure to environmental toxins; Getting trained in public policy, meeting politicians, and advocating for things like buffer zones to protect schools and childcare centers from industrial pollution.
  • National Conservation Crew - Age 15-19 - Outdoor, Tuition-free, High School Summer Program. Take a hands-on approach to preserving America's national parks, forests, and wildlife refuges. Join a Crew of high school students for a summer of adventure and giving back!
